Twitter is a social networking website that uses a microblogging format to connect users with brief updates that are limited to 140 characters. When a person sends a message on Twitter it is called a tweet. This service has become trendy and it is often used by celebrities and companies to update their status so that their fans can feel more connected to their activities. Twitter reactions are sometimes used to track how a breaking news story is being received by the general public.
Twitter clients can blog about the things that are happening or coming up in their lives in a very short format. With the size restrictions tweets become snap-shots of a person’s life in that moment. When a person joins Twitter she becomes able to search the Twitter database for blogs she wants to read and respond to. Twitter offers searches by hobby, popular blogs and shared interests.
If the new Twitter client tweets, the message is posted to that client’s blog on the Twitter website. The blog could be found through a general search but the odds are it wouldn’t be found easily. If no one can find the blog then no one will read it but the person who wrote it. To solve this problem Twitter created a feature that allows the client to invite friends to become readers of her blog stream. On Twitter, the people who connect to a blog so that they can read all of the postings are called followers.
By sending out invitations the new blog invites other Twitter clients to follow the new blog posts. The Twitter client doesn’t have to accept a follower if the person is someone they don’t like. This ability to screen who can easily read a tweet or Twitter blog is always available so that if you want to block a particular reader later, you can easily prevent them from receiving your tweets. Other Twitter clients who find the new blog in their search on Twitter can ask to become a follower if the blog is interesting to them.
When you belong to Twitter and you find other friends on Twitter and you send a message to the Twitter accounts of those friends, you are asking to follow the other friends. When your friend accepts your request you are then following your friend’s blog. Twitter will also recommend blogs you may like to follow based on your interests and profile. This will help you find other blogs that may interest you.
